  Simonstown V's Dunsany, Sunday 13th May 2002
Simonstown went into this match as we did, unbeaten thus far. Unfortunately for us though, they were the ones who continued this rich form after the final whistle had gone. Dunsany started the better, and led at half time after some fine work from all 15 players on the pitch. The Dunsany rear guard was managing far beyond expectations in containing the Simonstown attack. The backs were without Ann Marie Dennehy(Injured), Lisa Tyrell and Sinead Cusack (who were conscripted to the attack following injures to Karen Ward and Lisa Donnelly.) The creativity and scoring of Jackie Shiels (fresh from the introprovincials) was stiffled well by Nicola Lynch opperating at centre back. And the Dunsany forwards played well, but all to often failed, to convert scores in good position.

On the resumption of the match after half time, Simonstown were awarded an extremely dubious goal, despite the best efforts of Sandra Coleman and Colette O' Connell. And following hot on the heels of the goal was a pointed free (Awarded wrongly by the out of sorts referee) So Dunsanys advantage at the start of the second half was almost immediately turned into a deficit, from which they never recovered. Simonstown with the bit between their teeth, cemented their lead with an incredible run and goal from Jackie Shiels. Sinead Dooley, showed her class as did Lisa Kennan.

After the match the majority of the girls were wondering what went wrong, I don't think that the referee was completely to blame nor was the fact that we had a depleted team. A lot of blame fell on the forwards in that we didn't convert the dominance we enjoyed in the first half into scores. And on the fact that the amount of ball being delivered to the front line in the second half was extremely diminished from that which they enjoyed in the opening half hour.

But we are not out of it by a long shot , and fingers crossed we might get a chance to meet Simonstown in the later stages of the competition. Simonstown showed themselves to be a quality side but with some hard work and a little luck they can be beaten.

Sandra Coleman, Deirdre Dixon, Colette O' Connell Can't Remember, Nicola Lynch, Alison Lynch, Can't Remember, Frances Lynch(0-1), Aileen Donnelly(0-1), Sinead Cusack, Lisa Tyrell, Jenny Cusack(0-3), Debbie Burmas(0-1), Sinead Browne(0-1), Ann Gorman(0-1).
